Dear Scotts Valley Community,
Can you believe it's the last month of the school year?! May is a very busy and exciting month for our schools. As we approach the final month of the school year, we are filled with excitement and gratitude! It’s been an incredible journey watching our students grow, learn, and accomplish so much. Now, with just a few weeks left, we have several important events and celebrations planned to make this a memorable ending to a wonderful year. As we celebrate, we also remain focused on finishing strong academically. Please encourage your child to continue attending daily, completing assignments, and giving their best effort.
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and also Mental Health Awareness Month. We acknowledge the contributions that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made to our country and the hardships they have endured throughout the last century and beyond. Schools are celebrating the rich history and contributions through art, books, music, and historical discussions at all levels. Mental Health Awareness Month is a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of mental health and well-being for all individuals, but especially our students.
SVUSD is committed to supporting the emotional, social, and mental well-being of every child. Mental health plays a vital role in how students think, feel, learn, and grow. Whether facing academic stress, social pressures, or personal challenges, our students benefit from the encouragement and understanding of the caring adults around them.
Throughout May, our schools will be sharing age-appropriate resources, activities, and conversations to help students understand and care for their mental health. We invite you to join us in this effort by taking time to check in with your child, encouraging healthy routines, and reaching out for support when needed. Together, we can foster a safe, compassionate, and resilient learning community.

Each spring, SVUSD reviews the Local Control and Accountability Plan, a three-year document developed by the Director of Curriculum in consultation with and in collaboration among administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community members. This school year marks the first year of our current three-year plan. After three months of gathering data and feedback, the first draft of the LCAP will be available for review on the District website on May 16, 2025: www.scottsvalleyusd.org. Input can be provided via Google form, and there will be opportunities for public comment at the May 27, 2025, Board meeting.
Our Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee met at the end of April as we initiate our bond program. We are moving forward with requests for qualified proposals for our projects. We are very excited to be making forward progress. Additionally, the District continues to work with the Department of State Architects to obtain approval for basic architectural drawings, which are necessary to repair the damaged roof at SVMS from the tornado. We had planned to do these repairs over the summer, but DSA’s ongoing delays may not allow that to occur.
This summer, a variety of exciting community activities are available, specifically designed for children with disabilities. Many local organizations are offering inclusive summer camps and classes that provide fun, safe environments where children can make friends, build new skills, and enjoy activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, music, and outdoor adventures. Some programs even offer one-on-one support to ensure every child can participate fully. Families can look forward to a summer filled with creativity, exploration, and connection in programs that celebrate and embrace every child's unique abilities.

At the end of the month, all four schools will hold their promotion and graduation ceremonies. In mid-May, you will see the beautiful senior banners hanging along Scotts Valley Drive.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership throughout this year. We truly could not have done it without you. Let’s make this final month one to remember! If you have any questions about upcoming events, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the school office.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Tanya Krause and the District Office Team
