Dear Scotts Valley Community,

Congratulations to the Class of 2025, along with their families and friends!

Our commencement ceremony was a truly memorable celebration of achievement and growth. We’re also thrilled to honor our 8th-grade and 5th-grade students as they mark important milestones in their educational journey.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our end-of-year celebrations. Your support and involvement made these culminating events a meaningful and joyful conclusion to a successful school year.

At the most recent School Board meeting on May 27th, we were proud to recognize and honor this year's group of distinguished retirees from our district.

Dirk Andrews: 29 years of instruction as an elementary classroom teacher at Vine Hill, elementary music teacher, and high school music production and recording arts teacher.

Aristeo Flores: 23 years as the custodian at Scotts Valley Middle School.  The 2019 CINTAS Custodian of the Year.

John Magliato: 34 years teaching English at Scotts Valley Middle School.  The longest tenured educator in the District.

Donna Miguel: 30 years as an Instructional Aide in Special Education at Brook Knoll Elementary.

John Postovit: 16 years teaching Math and Physics at SVHS, 32 years teaching altogether.  The 2025 Santa Cruz County Teacher of the Year.

This is a special group of people who have dedicated their lives to our school community. They have had an immeasurable impact on the development of thousands of students. Each will be sorely missed. We wish them all the best in their well-earned retirement.

We are excited to announce that the State of California has begun releasing individual student scores for the state testing administered in April and May of this year. Students in 3rd-8th and 11th grade participated in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) in English Language Arts & Math. Students in the 5th, 8th, and 11th grades also participated in science.  Also, English learners participated in the summative ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California), and student scores are available for students who completed this assessment.

Families can access their child’s CAASPP and/or ELPAC student score report (SSR) through the Synergy Parent Portal. Once you log in as a parent, you can choose the “Test History” button in the left column. Click on CAASPP English 2025, and it will take you to your child’s test results.

Please note that the State has staggered the release of student scores, and additional scores will continue to be released throughout June. If after you log in to Synergy and do not yet see your student(s)’ state testing scores, we encourage you to check back periodically.

Below is a website that explains the student score report, showing a student’s growth over time, provides additional information about the CAASPP testing, and includes resources for your review. If you have questions about your child’s scores, please contact your child’s principal. https://ca.startingsmarter.org/

Students will also have uninterrupted access to the online programs available throughout the school year, including Lexia, IXL math & ELA, and other online resources. You can log into your child’s account at any time to access all of these programs. If you want math practice, using real-world problem-solving to support your children is the best practice. No matter their age, they can help you solve problems like the cost of attending concerts, paying for food, or other activities you plan for the summer. Include your kids in these activities and encourage them to use math! These small activities will help your child prepare for the new school year.

June and July are the ideal times to relax, recharge, and soak up the sun. Whether your plans include traveling, spending quality time with loved ones, diving into a great book, or exploring new hobbies, we at SVUSD hope you make the most of every moment.
